
FINISHING AN OUTSIDE CORNER
Using Pre-taped Corner Bead
- Measure and cut the corner bead 3/8" shorter than the height of the
wall.
- Apply a ¼" coat of drywall compound on both sides of the corner using
a 4" knife.
- Firmly embed the pre-taped corner bead into the corner and tight to the
ceiling.
- Wipe off excess compound and feather the edges 2" beyond the paper
tape.
- Make sure there are no air bubbles underneath the tape.
- Allow to dry, then sand lightly, removing any raised or rough areas.
- Apply a second coat using a 6" knife. Feather the edges 2" beyond
the first coat.
- Allow to dry, then sand lightly, removing any raised or rough areas.
- Repeat with a third coat, using an 8" or 10" knife, if necessary.
- Use a Pole Sander or Hand Sander for sanding.
Using Nail-On Corner Bead
- Measure and cut the corner bead 3/8" shorter than the height of the
wall.
- Nail corner bead into place spacing nails no more than 10" to 12"
apart. Make sure the nails penetrate right through to the frame.
- Apply a ¼" coat of drywall compound on both sides of the corner using
a 4" or 6" knife. Make sure that the metal is covered well. The
compound should extend 3" to 4" onto the drywall panel.
- Allow to dry, then sand lightly, removing any raised or rough areas.
- Apply a second coat using a 6" or 8" knife. Feather the edges
2" beyond the first coat.
- Allow to dry, then sand lightly, removing any raised or rough areas.
- Repeat with a third coat, using an 8" or 10" knife, if necessary.
- Use a Pole Sander or Hand Sander for sanding.
