FINISHING AN INSIDE CORNER
Using Pre-taped Corner Bead
- Measure and cut the corner bead 3/8" shorter than the height of the
wall.
- Apply a ¼" coat of drywall compound on both sides of the corner using
a 4" knife.
- Firmly embed the pre-taped corner bead into the corner and tight to the
ceiling.
- Wipe out excess compound and feather the edges 2" beyond the paper
tape using a corner tool.
- Make sure there are no air bubbles underneath the tape.
- Allow to dry, then sand lightly, removing any raised or rough areas.
- Apply a second coat along one side using a 6" knife. Feather the
edges 2" beyond the first coat.
- Allow to dry, then sand lightly, removing any raised or rough areas.
- Repeat same procedure with a second coat on the other side. Allow to dry.
- Repeat with a third coat, using an 8" or 10" knife, if necessary.
- Use a Pole Sander or Hand Sander for sanding.
Traditional Method - Without Corner Bead
- Apply a thin coat of drywall compound on both sides of the corner using
a 4" knife.
- Fold your length of paper tape down the centre and press into the corner.
- With a corner tool, embed the paper tape into the compound, wiping out
any air bubbles and removing any excess compound. The best method is to start
in the middle and run your corner tool upward, then return to the middle and
run your corner tool downward.
- Apply a second coat along one side using a 6" knife. Feather the edges
2" beyond the first coat.
