
JOINT FINISHING
Using Paper Tape:
- Apply ¼" of compound to the drywall joint using a 4" or 6"
knife.
- Apply paper tape over the joint.
- Embed the tape into the joint and wipe off excess compound. Allow to dry,
then sand.
- Apply a second coat using an 8" knife. Feather the edges 2"
beyond the first coat.
- Allow to dry, then sand lightly, removing any raised or rough areas.
- Repeat with a third coat, using an 8" or 10" knife, if necessary.
- Use a Pole Sander or Hand Sander for sanding.
Using Mesh Tape:
- Apply self-adhesive mesh tape over the joint.
- With a 4” knife apply a thin wide of coat of compound over the mesh tape.
- Allow to dry, then sand lightly, removing any raised or rough areas.
- Apply a second coat of compound using a 6” or 8” knife, feathering the
edges 2” beyond the previous coat.
- Allow to dry, then sand lightly, removing any raised or rough areas.
- Repeat with a third coat, using an 8" or 10" knife, if necessary.
- Allow to dry.
- Use a Pole Sander or Hand Sander for sanding.
